Hyundai Steel and In-House Startup 3I Solution Develop Industrial Neutron Element Analyzer
On the 10th, Hyundai Steel announced that it had developed an industrial neutron element analyzer in collaboration with Hyundai Motor Group's in-house startup, 3I Solution. The neutron element analyzer is a device that analyzes the composition of raw materials by utilizing the unique gamma rays emitted when elements react with neutrons. Currently, five overseas companies dominate 75% of the global market.
Hyundai Steel expects that using the neutron element analyzer will allow for comprehensive inspection of raw materials during transport and the application of real-time data to operations, thereby increasing production efficiency. Previously, it took an average of eight hours to analyze the composition of iron ore and steel scrap.
The neutron element analyzer project between Hyundai Steel and 3I Solution began in 2018 when they reviewed technology to improve the grading of steel scrap. In 2021, the project was recognized for its business potential by being selected for Hyundai Motor Group's startup team, and now, with the development completed, the spin-off is expected to take place within the year.
3I Solution is also in the final stages of developing a product to analyze the components of black powder, the crushed remains of used batteries, and plans to expand into the secondary battery recycling industry.
A representative from 3I Solution stated, "We plan to expand the demand market based on the localization and commercialization of the neutron element analyzer. We aim to lead innovation in various fields, including the steel industry, secondary battery recycling, and the non-destructive analysis market.“
